Oriel is a small studio for industrial, spatial and digital design. We take a lamp, a library or an app from first sketch to the thing in your hands, and we show our working.
A lamp needs a launch site. A library needs chairs. An app needs signs on the wharf. We're designers, engineers and makers in one room, so the whole thing comes out as one piece of work.
Products and furniture from sketch to factory floor: form, mechanics, materials and the box it ships in.
Small buildings, interiors and the furniture in them, drawn and detailed in-house down to the door handles.
Apps, sites and signs for the products and places we design, and for good companies who bring us theirs.
No black box and no big reveal. At the end of every stage you get the work itself on the table, and a plain note on what we'd do next and why.
We visit, measure and ask, then send the brief back to you on one page so we agree on what good looks like.
We draw widely, narrow to three directions and recommend one, with honest notes on what each would cost to make.
Card, foam, timber or code. You hold it, sit in it or tap through it, and we change it until it's right.
Through tooling, site or launch. We sign off the first one off the line, the keys or the release, not just the drawings.
Placeholder marks · replace with real clients
They brought a cardboard lamp to our first meeting. By the third, we were arguing about the colour of the cable, which is how we knew it would be good.
The model on our council table did more than any render. People could see the evening light coming into the room.
Every project is quoted after a first conversation, as a fixed fee per stage. These are the usual starting points.
Two weeks to turn an idea into three drawn directions and a recommendation you can take anywhere.
From the brief to the first one off the line, the keys handed over or the launch, with prototypes at every stage.
A few days a month from the same small team, for companies with a range that keeps growing.
Placeholder prices in AUD, excluding GST. Replace with the studio's own.
Yes. A sketch sprint is a good way to start, and plenty of our longest relationships began with one object.
You do, once the stage is paid. We keep the right to show the work in our portfolio after launch, and we'll always ask first.
Often. We can lead, or join your team for one discipline: the object, the interior or the app.
Most of our clients aren't nearby. We visit at the start and at each prototype, and share everything else as we go.
Of course. We keep a fuller set of case studies, drawings and prototypes to walk through on a call or in the studio.
Send a few lines about what you're making and when you need it. We reply within two working days, with questions rather than a sales deck.
