Example dates: confirm against the ATO's current calendar. Dates that fall on a weekend or public holiday move to the next business day, and a tax agent's lodgement program may give later dates. From 1 July 2026, employers pay super with each payday.

        Short notes,plainly.

General information, dated and reviewed each July. It doesn't take your circumstances into account.

        Trust distributions before 30 June

Trustees of a discretionary trust generally need to decide who receives the year's income by 30 June, and record it in a written resolution. Leave it late, or get the wording wrong, and the trustee can be taxed at the top rate. We draft the resolutions in May, after the year's numbers are estimated, and you sign them in June.

        Division 7A, in plain terms

Money taken from a private company by a shareholder or their family can be treated as an unfranked dividend unless it is repaid or put under a complying loan agreement by the company's lodgement day. We keep a register of every loan, prepare the agreements and remind you of minimum yearly repayments.

        Payday Super for family businesses

From 1 July 2026 employers pay super with each payday rather than each quarter. For a family business, that means a line for super in every pay run and a little less cash on hand between quarters. We set it up in the payroll software and check the first few runs.

        Keeping records for capital gains

When you sell an investment property, shares or crypto, the gain depends on the cost base: what you paid, and the costs of buying, holding and selling. Keep those records for five years after the sale. We hold a cost-base register for every asset in the family group.
